While working with families overseas, I played both the role of doula as well as surrogate mother/sister/best friend. One of the unique challenges of working with women from various cultures in an overseas context was the fact that their families were not able to be with them. I learned many of the values and skills I have as a doula by learning how to be a supporter in this framework. One of my strengths is that the labor setting is a place of confidence and calm for me. This helps me support you and your partner as an educated friend and counselor. I believe that you as the woman are the most educated person in the room when it comes time for labor and my role will be to highlight that to everyone in the room. As I walk with you through this journey, I hope to be a listening ear to make your desired birth a reality.
